Script Murders: The Form and Design of the Most Popular Tabletop Genre in China



Script murder, or jubensha, has become one of the mainstream tabletop game genres in China. From the original murder mystery games imported from the Western world, script murders have evolved into a richer game collection—like scripts of joy, scripts of emotion, scripts of horror, and more. In this 2023 Tabletop Summit talk, Ming Liu and Xinhui Yang introduce script murder games in three aspects: the origin and evolution, the design pattern, and what developers can gain from script murders.
