Take a behind-the-scenes exploration into the feature-length animation film “Little Amélie or the Character of Rain” by Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han, which participated in the Annecy Festival official competition. ✨
Adapted from Amélie Nothomb’s best-selling novel, the film tells the story of the writer’s early childhood in Japan in the late 1960s. From the perspective of Amélie, a unique and hypersensitive child, a poetic and evocative story unfolds.
Irrevocably attached to her friend and nanny Nishio-San, Amélie discovers the world, Japanese traditions and her emotions. Initially detached from the world, she is reborn thanks to a defining revelation: the taste of white chocolate.
Set to music by Japanese composer Mari Fukuhara, the film plays out over four seasons. The childhood home, designed in 3D by Eddine Noël, and artistic direction associating each character with a reference colour, provide the visual setting for the story.
🎐 “Little Amélie or the Character of Rain” is a sensitive and profoundly poetic film, representing more than seven years of hard work. This debut feature film puts its trust in the perceptiveness and emotional intelligence of young audiences.
