Take a look behind the scenes of “Carboard”, JP Vine’s original first short film, produced by Locksmith Animation. 🎬

👉 After co-directing “Ron’s Gone Wrong” and working on “Inside Out”, the filmmaker has created an intimately poetic work. It’s the story of an overwhelmed single father who finds hope again thanks to his children’s boundless imagination.

Stemming from a personal memory and shaped by a deep sensitivity, “Cardboard” combines humour, tenderness and resilience – a tribute to childhood, family and the creative power of play.

🎨 Created using traditional computer graphics, the film unfolds in a pictorial universe inspired by watercolours and children’s drawings, where each hand-painted texture expresses an emotion.

“Cardboard” premiered at Annecy 2025 and it’s a sublime declaration of love for handmade animation, the freedom of the short film format and shared imagination.
