Is the Sports Industry Ready for the Climate Challenge?

Claudia Klingelhöfer spoke with Dominique Verkaik from Protect Our Winters (POW) at ISPO Munich 2024 about the urgent need for action on climate change in the outdoor sports community. POW is playing a crucial role in mobilizing the industry through education, collaboration, and advocacy. By working with brands, athletes, and policymakers, POW can affect systemic change that goes beyond simply meeting compliance standards toward making real changes within the industry.

Partnerships such as that with FIS and campaigns like their Downstream film with Icebreaker, demonstrate how collaboration can help truly create impact. They are expanding their focus to include mountain biking and trail running to clearly demonstrate that climate action is necessary across all outdoor sports, not just winter sports.

At ISPO Munich 2025, we want to give you the opportunity to exchange ideas and solutions with industry leaders to tackle sustainability challenges together.
