Enhancing sustainability of the Devil’s Claw supply chain in Namibia

Devil’s Claw is a wild plant from Namibia and its dried tubers are used for joint health properties. Devil’s Claw is under pressure due to the growing demand and unsustainable harvesting practices. This is why the project partners Naturex, NANCi and NDCEAT, supported by the BioInnovation Africa Project, joined forces to develop the GACP+ Standard. The standard deploys best collection practices, traceability and compliance with local regulations, including ABS. The BIA project is funded by the
Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The presentation will highlight the project rationale; GACP + Standard: consultation, definition and related activities; and the implementation process.
